Hanover Charities has supported the Copse Health Center, benefiting the children of Askenish.
Westhaven Home & Hanover Parish Library
Hanover Charities has long supported the Westhaven Home with an annual grant. This home urgently needs various items including sanitary equipment, wheelchairs, adult diapers, clothing and bed linens.
Recently, the McClusky family, guests at Round Hill, collected t-shirts, resulting in Hanover Charities donating numerous new outfits for the children at the home.
In 2005, Hanover Charities donated $7,000USD to establish the “Children’s Reading & Play Room” at the Hanover Parish Library in Lucea. The room is utilized by children for after-school activities, including weekly readings and storytelling sessions organized by librarian Ms. Stewart.
Hanover Charities / Chukka Foundation Charity Polo Event
Annually, Hanover Charities partners with the Chukka Foundation to host its Charity Polo Event at the Chukka Sandy Bay Ranch to raise funds for the charity. A signature project is identified to assist a much needed organization – in 2023 we assisted the Sandy Bay Basic School in order to receive their Early Childhood Commission certificate. For 2024 the Dalmally Basic School in Diaz has been chosen.
Container of Love
Container of Love was born out of the critical needs of the schools and communities we support. Our objective is to annually fill a 40ft container with essential items which we import each summer before the academic year begins. The container contains school supplies, clothing, toiletries, medical equipment, educational tools, non-perishable food, and more. Following distribution, Hanover Charities gifts the container to a community site to facilitate learning in Hanover.
The Journey of ‘Container of Love’
Planning:- Collaborating with partner schools, organizations, Jamaica’s Ministry of Education, Youth, and Information, along with other stakeholders, we are committed to comprehensively addressing the needs of the various communities we serve. Through our ‘Wishlist’ we diligently oversee the coordination of purchasing, shipping and distribution.
Purchasing:- Using our ‘wishlist’ as a reference, we secure items in bulk from wholesale companies and business suppliers willing to contribute in-kind donations. Among the sought-after items are school supplies, school shoes, clothing, laptops, tablets, hygiene products as well as staple food items.
Shipping:- Once purchased, the items are securely stored by the Hanover Charities USA team. Subsequently, we commence filling the Container of Love and ensure its safe shipment to Jamaica by the end of July/August.
Distributing: Upon arrival in Montego Bay and after customs clearance, the Container of Love is moved to a secure storage site in Hanover. Hanover Charities, alongside a committed volunteer team, then organize the distribution of items to the intended recipients.
Learning: After distribution to our beneficiaries, we donate the container to a community site in Hanover. Our aim is to repurpose the container as a space for students’ educational and extracurricular activities.
