Cecile Clare Kitchen of Love

Each Tuesday in Lucea, volunteers labor over hot stoves to provide up to 600 hot meals to the hungry, indigent, sick, and housebound in Hanover Parish.  Administered through the Ministers’ Fraternal, the Cecile Clare Kitchen of Love is one of our larger financial outlays each year.

Through our donors’ generosity, Hanover Charities recently improved the physical kitchen by expanding the space and replacing open-fire wood stoves with modern gas ones.

At Christmas, generous cooks from Round Hill, the Tryall Club, and beyond provide hundreds of cookies to make the weekly hot meal a bit more special.

This all-volunteer effort is a manifestation of concern for the neediest residents of Hanover–so much so that Hanover Parish has renamed our “soup kitchen” to the more appropriate “Cecile Clare Kitchen of Love.”  Cecile Clare was a founding member of Hanover Charities, and had a long-lasting commitment to helping the needy around her.  As a wonderful continuation of her charity, Miss Clare’s niece, Sherrill Robinson is now a member of our board and heavily involved in the operation of the Kitchen of Love.

Even with the large financial commitment from Hanover Charities, the Kitchen of Love operates only once a week, and the weekly cost is about $400.  We welcome your donations to this specific project.
