Hanover Charities and The Chukka Foundation
Hanover Charities is the largest non-profit, 501c3 organization in Western Jamaica. Celebrating the Diamond Jubilee in 2017, Hanover Charities since its inception has invested millions of US$ to the parish of Hanover. The charity provides help to a number of charitable efforts each year including school feeding programs; the ill, elderly or homeless are served over 600 hearty meals from the Cecile Clare Kitchen of Love. Most schools date back to the sixties and leave much desire to be renovated or enlarged – Hanover Charities assists with new furniture, classroom extensions and even computer rooms. The charity organization has also provided help to facilities such as the Westhaven Home for Disabled and Abandoned Children, the Hanover Infirmary, an annual Health Fair and the extensive scholarship programme.
The Chukka Foundation is dedicated to achieving immediate and lasting changes to the lives of children, youth and families in their local communities. Empowering through education, scholarships and improving lives and offering our philanthropic support. The Chukka Foundation also promotes responsible and compassionate care towards animal welfare. Over the past ten years, the Foundation has assisted with offering scholarships, improving classrooms, assisting schools, environmental projects and animal welfare. In the past, The Chukka Foundation has assisted the Lucea Infant School, Chester Basic School, Sandy Bay Basic School, The Montego Bay Animal Haven, ICC Beach Clean Up Programs and Breast Cancer Awareness to name a few. The Foundation has also made it a consistent priority to support the community with scholarships for local students.
Hanover Charities and the Chukka Caribbean have hosted a Polo match at the Chukka Polo Field in Sandy Bay for years – this year is no exception. Hanover Charities through a partnership with the Chukka Foundation will once again host the much awaited Polo Event on Sunday, February 18, 2018. This partnership, not only creates a one of a kind social event in Western Jamaica but it also greatly impacts hundreds of students through their scholarship programs. The funds raised at the Polo match provides an opportunity in the form of scholarships for a number of youths in Hanover to pursue a tertiary education. This year’s charity polo event is expected to bring together locals and visitors for a fun-filled family day of play but most importantly for giving back.
On Sunday, 18th February, the Polo Match will begin at 2.00 p.m., with a match of under 18 followed by adults. A prize giving is held for each match. In addition, a DJ plays for the afternoon. Some of the other fun events will include a hat competition for ladies, entertaining photo booth with amusing props and exciting auctions run by an auctioneer extraordinaire.
